Coil Chocks, also known as Coil Bunks, are used in conjunction with 4"x 4" or other hardwood timbers to stabilize metal coils in the load securement process on flatbed trailers. The Coil Chocks/Coil Bunks are designed prevent the coil from rolling around or off the flatbed....
We have Coil Chocks/Coil Bunks available for both standard- and heavy-duty applications. We’ve engineered our Coil Chocks/Coil Bunks to assist in compliance with DOT standard 49CFR section 393.120. Note that the Coil Chock/Coil Bunk itself is not a cargo control device and should not be accounted for in total cargo control system working load limit calculations.
Steel coils can be some of the toughest freight to haul because their massive weight is concentrated in one small area on the trailer — not to mention their tendency to roll. Coil chocks are often used in conjunction with 4-by-4 boards or other hardwood timbers to stabilize metal coils on flatbed trailers.
Standard-Duty Coil Chock
For the lightweight jobs that don’t require as much strength, we have our Standard-Duty Coil Chocks available. This 33.23-inch-long device is ideal in keeping the coil from rolling off of the flatbed trailer. Combine it with lumber and chain to create a straightforward and reliable means of holding down that rolling metal coil.
Heavy-Duty Coil Chock
For the heavier jobs that need a bit more strength, we have our Heavy-Duty Coil Chocks available. Made from hot rolled steel 8 gauge and measuring to 33.23 inches long, this device is strong enough to keep that metal coil stable and in place, preventing it from rolling away. Strong and durable, this device works seamlessly with lumber and chains to offer a reliable hold on that coil.
